Kill Bill
Watched it again last Thursday at Island 16 (which is the best cinema in our area) with Brian, JT, & Steve. It was more fun the 2nd time around because there were only 15 of us in the theatre. And, there was a short (5-10 min.) power interruption that caused the movie to stop right when The Bride was going to fight O-Ren Ishii. We got free tickets because of the power failure. When the movie resumed, we had more fun. Who plays dance music during a fight scene? I was dancing in on my seat. Then, JT got the groove.
(Side note: It flurried briefly that night.)
Today, I bought the soundtrack. It's got 5 bonus "Kung Fu Stings & SFX" & 3 QuickTime previews/trailers (the 1st is a full version of what I've seen in the theaters & the Internet, the other 2 I've never seen before) which gives you a glimpse of Vol. 2. By far, the best soundtrack I've purchased and the best $13.99 I've spent. (11-28-3 Update: The soundtrack can be quite addictive; Brian, JT & I have been hooked on it for over a week.)
Songs I like are:
"Green Hornet" by Al Hirt (So far, my favorite track; awesome trumpet playing! A good flashback and something I can see myself dancing to, if they ever played it at a disco. If there was a 15 min. extended version, I'd get it. This would be the ideal song for me to wake-up with instead of an alarm. I'd buy the original album it came from, if it will be released on CD.)
"The Grand Duel - (Parte Prima)" (I love the harmonica! I wish I could play like that! This track is a tie with "The Lonely Shepherd" as my 2nd favorite track. You can feel the emotions whenever the harmonica is played.)
"The Lonely Shepherd" by Gheorghe Zamfir (Very moving instrumental. This song is a tie as my 2nd favorite track with "The Grand Duel - (Parte Prima)" because the lead instrument {which I think is a "bamboo" [or some sort of wood] flute [11-22-3 update: I was right about it being made of wood & it is sort of a 'flute', it's a pan-flute (a.k.a. pan-pipe, pandean-pipe, mouth-organ & syrinx). What's interesting is that some believe it to be the ancestor of the harmonica; and, that's not a farfetch idea.] because it doesn't sound metallic; I love the way it sounds; it's flawed acoustic sound can't be imitated by any current electronic instrument}, just like the harmonica in "The Grand Duel - (Parte Prima)", is played powerfully. What's interesting is that it sounds like it is of Asian origin but I don't think it is.)
"Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood" (Despite the fact that it's an epic length of over 10 min., it's quite good! Due to the tie on my 2nd favorite, this is my 4th favorite track. I think I've heard a different version of this before; this one has a Latin feel to it. My favorite part is the refrain, "Cause I'm just a soul, whose intentions are good. Oh Lord, please don't let me be misunderstood.")
"Battle Without Honor Or Humanity" (Without knowing the title, I'd have never guessed that this instrumental was of Japanese origin! This is my 5th favorite track.)
"Twisted Nerve" (If only I can whistle. This is my 6th favorite track.)
"The Flower Of Carnage" (I have no idea what she's saying but it makes me feel like I'm in a brothel full of geishas & eating sushi. 11-24-3 update: I've been trying [and still unsuccessful] to find in the Internet the enlish lyrics of this song. I decided to look at the CD sleeve for the 1st time since I bought it. And guess what? The english lyrics is 1 of the only 2 lyrics printed on it! Ha!-Ha!-Ha!)
So, here it is:
Begrieving snow falls in the dead morning
Stray dog's howls and the footsteps of Geta pierce the air
I walk with the weight of the Milky Way on my shoulders
but an umbrella that holds onto the darkness is all there is.
I'm a woman who walks at the brink of life and death
who's emptied my tears many moons ago
All the compassion tears and dreams
The snowy nights and tomorrow hold no meaning
I've immersed my body in the river of vengeance
and thrown away my womanhood many moons ago
On the behalf of heaven, they're our soldiers,
the loyal, invincible and brave.
Now it's time for them to leave the country of their parents
their hearts buoyed by encouraging voices.
They are solemnly resolved not to return alive,
without victor.
Here at home, the citizens wait for you.
In foreign lands, the brave troops
Instead of kindness from someone
I do not care about
I rather prefer selfishness from you my beloved.
Oh, is the world a dream or an illusion?
I am all alone in jail.
"Run Fay Run"
"Crane / White Lightning"
"Woo Hoo" (Either you hate the song for it's intelligent lyric or you're laughing at those who hate the song for it's intelligent lyic.)
