CD Speed Limit

Ever wondered why you don't see CD drives that go higher than 60x? That's because CDs can actually rip apart, if they spin faster than 52x. So, the fastest CD-RW would eventually be 52x52x52x; I will most likely upgrade my 52x24x52x, when it becomes available.

Unless they're somehow more durable than CDs, perhaps even DVDs have the same speed limit; and if so, then the fastest speed DVD±RWs (including future formats HD-DVD±RW or BD-DVD±RW) would also be 52x52x52x. I can't wait till it gets to that speed!

If you want more info, here are 2 web articles:
"Maxell introduces 48x CD-R media and warnes about the risks of higher speeds."
"PowerLabs High Speed CD-Rom Experiments"
(this web article has a photo of a CD that ripped apart after spinning beyond it's 52x limit)
